in former times - September 2008 release on Clean
Feed Records

This recording is a document of the live concert Memorize the Sky
gave at the 2007 Ulrichsberger Kaleidophon. These five tracks mark the
continued evolution of the Memorize the Sky's focused and patient music
from their first studio release. At the same time, these recordings reveal
an untethered energy and the tremendous range of dynamics and textures
that are a hallmark of their live sets.
memorize the sky
- May 2007 release on 482 Music
This first studio document of MTS’s decade-long collaboration captures
the sound that defines their live sets: meticulously shaped textures,
hovering or gradually unfolding. The eight improvisations presented here
come from over six hours of material recorded in a barn in upstate New
York in the fall of 2005. Purely textural bricks of sound are juxtaposed
with lyrical melody-driven meditations. Longer musical forms reveal their
complexity slowly, while shorter tracks become studies in texture, orchestration
and register. The music is improvised, sometimes based on a simple plan.
Extended instrumental techniques give the acoustic sounds a depth closer
to electronic music. Yet, these recordings are equally defined by unaffected
musical notes placed in the context of sonic textures. Memorize the Sky
is a balance of open forms and structured investigations, noises and notes.
